Summer Lovin

Posted on 8:20am Thursday 5th Nov 2009

What a fantastic season!

My personal highlight was seeing one of our couples from 2008 as a guests at a wedding this year along with their 1 month old baby. It made me realise what an honour it is to capture someone’s wedding day for them. To be there at the beginning of a journey that changes couples into a family. On the day where an old life ends and a new one begins.

As someone who was with their partner for 7 years before we married, I have always found it difficult to explain how marriage has changed us. When people ask "how's married life?" the logical answer is "the same as before" but it isn't true. Yes we still live in the same house, have the same life and are equally as committed as we ever were, but something is different. We have a new dynamic, something that makes us a team and reminds us that we will always have each other. After doing this job for a while no one can say that a wedding is just a day.

Anyway, that's enough philosophical reflection. I'm sure you are all desperate to see how the tally panned out...

Number of tissues used when secretly choked up: Countless. I even had to ‘sleeve it’ twice. Thank goodness I can hide my soppiness behind my camera.

Number of times Kim has climbed up or on something dangerous looking to 'get the shot': 11 – the best was when I practically abseiled out of a window to take a picture of the whole crowed. Everyone as a horrified look on their face in most shots

Number of times Kim has rolled on the floor to 'get the shot': 16. I am not ashamed.

Number of times Kim nearly fell in a body of water to 'get the shot': 5 - 3 ponds and 2 rivers

Number of times Sheena has rolled her eyes at Kim's stunts: Thousands (she still secretly thinks it hilarious)

Number of minor injuries we have received due to guests over enthusiastic dance floor moves:Still just 2. Phew!

Number of 'Thank You mentions' during the speeches: 2. Lovely.

Number of times Sheena has said 'Awwww' at the little flower girls and page boys: Countless again. She went into overdrive when she saw the identical twin flower girls.

Number of times Kim has wished she had worn that dress: 7. Really, some of them were so beautiful I felt sick.

Number of times someone has looked directly into the camera and pulled a funny face: 573 – You know who you are.

Number of ideas Sheena has 'borrowed' for her wedding next year: Put it this way – the day isn’t long enough for all of her plans. The magician, comedian, face painter and pianist will all have to be on at the same time. Followed by the cast of Circ du Soleil performing whilst the guests munch on the pick’n’mix buffet and glittery cupcakes.

Thanks again to all of our lovely couples. It's been Brilliant.

Kim xx
